In a world of enormous disparity and injustices, Global Greengrants Fund makes small grants ($500-$5,000) to grassroots groups working to achieve clean environments, sustainable livelihoods, and healthy communities across the globe. Our efforts are focused in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and island nations – in regions where local communities must confront significant challenges and do not have the resources they need to protect the water, land, and environment they depend on for survival.
Throughout our 17-year history, we have granted over $20 million to more than 5,000 groups working towards these goals. We identify groups to support through a network of locally-based environmental activists. These are our expert advisors—biologists, nonprofit managers, lawyers, economists, foresters, journalists, engineers, and activist leaders—who identify passionate people and organizations capable of improving their communities and defending their environments. Then, Greengrants contributes the funding these leaders need to make a difference.
Our small grants provide resources for positive change in regions where there are none. Our activist-led approach puts decision-making power in the hands of local experts—visionary leaders deeply connected to the issues and with those groups most poised to make a difference. Together, we are developing sustainable livelihoods, protecting civil liberties, preserving threatened ecosystems, and enabling those in need to have a voice in their own future.
Join us in raising their voices. It’s truly incredible how far a little support can go.
