AFSC along with the National Priorities Project are sponsoring a youth video project to help young people (13-23) enter the cost of war discussion. By September 30, 2010, taxpayers will pay $1.05 trillion for total Iraq and Afghanistan war spending since 2001. This money could be spent in our communities on many things that now face cuts, like after school programs, art and music programs, and summer jobs.
This is an opportunity to share ideas about what could be done – for yourself, your family and your community – with $1 trillion. This page is meant to be a place where people can discuss the topic of "If I Had a Trillion Dollars" in the group forum. Take a look at some of the already uploaded videos at: http://www.youtube.com/user/IHTDVideos and then tell us what you think the money should be spent on.
The rules and prizes of the video project are as follows:
Entries must be produced by youth between the ages of 13 and 23.
Entries must be uploaded to YouTube with the tag IHTDvideos by November 30, 2010.
Must be between 1 and 3 minutes in length and address the $1 trillion price tag for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
First Prize - $500 and trip for 2 to Washington, DC to show video to home legislator
Second and Third prizes - Flip video cameras For more information about the project and to download the IHTD Overview/Rules, IHTD Issues Toolkit, IHTD Video Toolkit, and IHTD Curriculum, go to: http://afsc.org/action/if-i-had-trillion-dollars-youth-video-contest.
